Facebook Design System
Context
Inspired by the iOS-native pattern that Apple popularized, we created a component with system-level optimization and control to better scale light-weight content discovery experiences across Facebook.
Based on qualitative data, long-press and haptic touch gestures have become a foundational app-level function young adult and Gen-Zs power-users have come to expect. Product teams and designers have therefore seized on the opportunity to create and ship versions of this experience — overtime leading to a growing fragmentation problem.
Strategy
By investing in a Glimpse component and provide teams with a scalable solution, we would help accelerate product execution, unify our product experience and elevate app ecosystem quality.
The goal was to create a reusable, and flexible pattern structure that enabled efficient product iteration and experimentation. By architecting our component using API and data-model from our existing media-based components, we enabled teams to easily "plug-and-play" glimpse variants that best suited their needs.

Outcome
To maintain consistent behavior that aligns with user's expectations we also established principles around trigger, content scaling, motion and navigation logic, as well as accessibility safe guards to ensure design system quality benchmark is met.
This effort spanned 6 product partnerships (Feed, Marketplace, Notification, Ads, Search, Video) where the established variants were used to validate Glimpse scale and value to the product experience. By the end of 2025, we successfully tested and launched the pattern on Feed, Search, and Marketplace surfaces, with Video and Notifications launches planned for early-mid 2026.
